A busy week!
Knightcycle Updates!
It’s been an incredibly busy week as I start putting the pieces in place for what could soon become the official launch of Knightcycle. The more I dig into it, the clearer it becomes that this idea is both viable and genuinely needed.
The support from the 3D printing community has been amazing — hobbyists, small businesses, and makerspaces have all shown real passion for sustainability and recycling. It’s clear there’s a strong demand for what Knightcycle aims to do.
What’s Been Happening
- Securing sustainable material suppliers and testing masterbatch samples
- Designing and prototyping cardboard filament spools (with some laser-engraving fun along the way!)
- Sorting out logistics, including potential couriers and collection options
- Setting up tools for testing and sorting plastics for recycling
- Exploring promising locations for Knightcycle’s first base of operations
- Accepting donated scrap PLA for initial recycling trials
- Refining the business model to make startup leaner and more sustainable
What’s Next
The focus now is to reach out to local businesses and makerspaces to gauge interest in a Knightcycle subscription model — a key step in helping the project get off the ground. Once the first partners sign on, the initial investment phase can begin, and full-scale filament testing will kick off.
I’m also planning to consult with environmental experts to ensure every aspect of Knightcycle meets sustainability standards and waste regulations.
There’s a lot ahead, but it’s all feeling more real every day.
